Rainbow Craft

The PreK/K class finished their colour unit by making rainbows of their own. They had the choice o using paper strips, string or fruit loops to fill in their rainbow. This was a great fine motor activity as well as a fun craft!

Colour Activities

ORANGE DAY

Challenge: Look through the magazines to find orange items to put on your orange paper. This was the kindergartens' first time using their scissors and glue at school. They did a great job!

The glue made the paper stick to Landon's hand like a fingernail!

Kody cuts out his orange discovery very carefully.

"There is lots of orange on this one!" - Brayden

Everett makes an orange necklace when he is done his orange collage.

Jedidiah found some interesting orange pumpkins!

YELLOW DAY

CHALLENGE: Paint your plate to be the sun and use your hands to make the rays.
We need a little sunshine after the cold weather we have had!

Oh mister sun, sun, mister golden sun,
Please shine down on me.
Oh mister sun, sun, mister golden sun,
Hiding behind a tree.
These little children are asking you,
To please come out so we can play with you.
Oh mister sun, sun, mister golden sun,
Please shine down on me!

Brayden had so much fun making the rays, that he wanted to keep finger painting in yellow!

Jedidiah is very careful and precise with his artwork.

Kody did not want to touch the paint with his whole hand, so he made skinny rays with his finger.

Landon and Everett socialize and share their ideas about the sun while painting.

When the boys were done their artwork, we had one more surprise for them-- making home made lemonade!

The boys were excited to go down to the Home Ec lab to make their afternoon treat.

Landon and Brayden discover just how sour lemons are by themselves! What a bunch of brave guys!

Kody and Jedidiah squeeze the lemons into the measuring cup.

Recipe
6 lemons
6 cups of water
1 cup of sugar- we only used 1/2 a cup

GREEN DAY

CHALLENGE: Find something green outside and use crayons to shade the texture onto paper.

The boys search for green items in the brown and orange fall leaves.

Jedidiah found a small green leaf.

Landon found some grass.

Everett found a large weed!
The boys brought their discoveries inside and placed them under white paper. They then used a variety of green shades to colour overtop of their green items to leave a textured mark on the paper.

BLUE DAY

CHALLENGE: Throw blue paint at your paper to make interesting designs!
This turned into finger painting very quickly :)

Kody uses his nails to make claw marks on his paper. "A cat is scratching my paper!"

"I need to wash my paw!"

Everett didn't want to get his hands dirty, so he found a stick to paint with.

Brayden loved this activity! He made 4 pictures!

PURPLE DAY

CHALLENGE: Sprinkle the purple powder on the paper and spray it to see what happens. What do you notice?

"It's sticking to my fingers!"

"This is my first time using a spray bottle."

"Can I spread it everywhere?"

"It's making a design!"

"It smells like grapes or cherries!"

First Week Frenzy

What a busy first week we had in PreK-K! There sure are a lot of new routines, students and bells to get used to! I am so thankful this year to have 6 kindergarten gentlemen who have been fantastic learners this week. Exploring the room has been lots of fun so far!

Isaiah practices his letters and colour sorting with our magnetic letters.

"I'm helping customers!" -- House Centre

"Look what we made Miss Schebel!" -- Block Centre

Jedidiah takes his time on his finger painting, making tiny repetitive strokes for a neat pattern!

Kody inspects a cork with a magnifying glass at the science centre.

Isaiah and Landon thought that the colour mixing baking soda and vinegar station was pretty neat.

Jedidiah ebraces his inner architect in the block centre.
